Visual Arts 1 is an introductory art class, exposing students to various art making techniques and terminology. Over the course of the year, students learn the princilple of art and design, engage in constructive criticism during critiques, and participate in two art shows. Below are some of the projects include in the course.

The Tondo Project, (right) challenges students to demonstrate their pen technique within a circular format. The Tondo drawing must have a focal point and a sense of depth.

In the Homage to a Tea Cup, (left and below) students use the coil building technique to create a sculptural form that must have one element that can serve as a cup and one that can serve as a saucer.
After practicing pencil technique, including a study of texture and tonal range, students are taught one point perspective (right). Students create a city scape demonstrating their skills.
